Week of June 1, 2011: "First-year Women's Team Shows Flair for Football" by Taylor Lambert, Published on May 30, 2011 in The StarPhoenix.

This week's article of the week highlights some Canadian media coverage- FINALLY- of women playing football with their clothes on! While most of the country is still tied up in the Toronto Lingerie Football nightmare, Taylor Lambert of the StarPhoenix is writing about the inaugural season of the Western Women's Canadian Football League.

As always, here is our favourite section of the article:

“Our strength is just our desire to be here,” said [Candace] Bloomquist.

“(It’s) the passion. People want to be here, there’s no doubt about it. They’re trying their best every time out. As far as strategy and skill levels, we’re all new and we’re all learning.”

......

[Jeff] Yausie noted the seven-team league has the potential to open doors at all levels of female sport.

“I’m excited to see where it goes,” he said. “I’m excited to see a good group of fans coming out for the women. And I’m excited to see women get the chance to experience the game that men have for a long time.”
