The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) empowers, develops, assists, celebrates, affirms, involves and honors women in the field and takes a pro-active role in advancing them into positions of influence. NACWAA.org was built to inform, connect and inspire women in college athletics.

I arrived in San Diego after a short visit with family in Orange County. Upon entering the hotel, I was incredibly excited to meet new people and old friends. The NACWAA team did an incredible job welcoming all members of the convention and pointing everyone in the right direction.

The first session I attended was LGBTWQ: Building an Inclusive Athletic Department. Panelists Helen Carroll, Christina Rivera, Hudson Taylor, and Shaun Travers lead an inspiring and informational session on how everyone can transform their athletic department to more acceptance for LGBTQ student-athletes. Administrators in the room learned new ways they can bring LGBTWQ programs back to their campuses to raise awareness.

After the first breakout sessions, everyone made their way to the larger room. Patti Philips, Denise Mills, and Debi Hemmeter delivered powerful and motivating speeches, gearing up attendees for an exciting conference. Conversations sparked the room from one table to the next and administrators of all levels enjoyed getting to know everyone at their table.

I specifically enjoyed the mentor/mentee welcome program. The program is designed for younger generation aspiring administrators to get to know a senior-level administrator on a personal level. A relationship was built and mentees and mentors will continue following up and learning from one another over the next year and beyond.

There were so many people to meet and share common connections with. I am looking forward to what tomorrow's breakout sessions have to bring!
