Hello, and welcome to “Going the Xxtra Mile.” The women whose insights and inspiration will be appearing in this story thread are just like you – single or married, goddesses of industry or domestic engineers, have numerous children or none, an accomplished triathlete or relatively new to the sport -- women who are trying to balance everything life throws at them, while working to keep a piece of life for themselves. We all know that it is not always easy. Sometimes, it gets downright insane.

There is Claire, a fabulously alive 35 year old living the New York City life. Recently divorced, Claire will be competing in the Danskin Triathlon in Sandy Hook, New Jersey in September. This is Claire’s second triathlon – interestingly enough, her first was the year she got married!

Liz is 42 with four children under 12. Having put her own successful career on hold to raise her family, Liz has taken to the sport of triathlon like a fish to water (although she will be the first to tell you that swimming is not her strong suit!). With her schedule, and an incredibly active two year old, her time-management skills are definitely not on hiatus.

Thirty-two year old Brooke is a life-long athlete (former collegiate soccer player), married, with two boys under the age of five! Enough said? Brooke has two triathlons to her credit and is working on her third. And she has a special story to share about dealing with what life puts in your path.

Sally, 63, is from Sacramento and is a legend in the sport of Triathlon. The Chief Inspiration Office for the Xxtra Mile, Sally is simply the most genuinely amazing woman you will ever have the pleasure of knowing. Sally’s mission in life is to get America fit, one woman at a time! You will be inspired, cajoled, loved, challenged, amused, and often times delighted, by Sally’s take on the world and her belief in you! One of my favorite of Sally’s quotes is “There is a woman inside you who wants to have a chance to succeed: By engaging in the sport of triathlon you can give her that chance. In fact, you will become this new woman when you cross the finish line, because this is who you were born to be.” Sally believes that and she will have you believing in yourself.

And last but not least, there is me, Margie, 48, an urbanite living in Vermont! I have the privilege of being a principal of The Xxtra Mile, a fabulous women’s company striving to do great things for women. I have my own tale of a life’s plan thrown to hell in a hand basket. I got my bearings by focusing on being fit and regaining my confidence in my health. Although the Danskin Sandy Hook Triathlon will, I think, be my fourteenth, it might as well be my first!

We hope that what we have to say on these pages resonates with you; that you take away a new way of thinking about life or your training. Or, maybe, we will just make you laugh and not feel so alone (or insane!). So join us on this journey and find out why millions of women are finding that triathlon is a sport the can reward them beyond what they ever thought possible.
