This past summer a combination of softball greats came together and joined forces. All-American Lindsay Gardner and Olympic Gold Medalist Cat Osterman. They begin their first season together at St. Edwards University (located in Austin TX). Before acquiring the head position at St.Edwards, Gardner worked with the fast-pitch travel team Platinum. While Osterman spent the past two years assitant coaching at Depaul University. She still continues to play for the USSSA Pride professional team.

The duo both successfully played their collegiate careers at the University of Texas at Austin. Gardner as an infielder and Osterman as a pitcher. Utilizing their experience as players, coaches, and students of the game, they begin their journey in the Heartland Conference. They are preparing to accomplish what the program has never done before in their 13 year Division II history. The challenge is to win a National Championship at the World Series in May located in Louisville KY. Gardner was part of the coaching staff (as an assistant) of the year in 2008 when the Hilltoppers tied for third at the wolrd series.

Acquiring these two women for recruiting is a recipe for greatness. There will be many benefits for the program, university, and Division II softball. Osterman and Gardner's talents combined with a strong program will bring a fan following as well as high expectations. This pair will also attract stronger athletes who will be saying the newly released NCAA Division II slogan, "I Chose Division II".

The Hilltoppers have completed their fall season with one of the highlights being their tie to the 2011 National Semifinalist Big 12 school Baylor. They embark on their inaugural season slated for Febuary 2012 .
