posted by Running in the Bike Lane Triathlons from a girl's perspective. I love to run and a few years ago I found myself cycling and learning how to swim. Thus, I am now an obsessed triathlete. |

Raced Ironman California 70.3 today and it was a good day!
Woke up early and headed to transition for setup. It was chilly before sunrise, so despite my fears of the cold water, the water wasn't too bad since it was warmer than the air.
The swim was a bit rough, I had some leaking in my goggles and salt water in the eye doesn't feel good! I thought I did a decent job of focusing on my head position and stroke, but clearly I failed since I came out of the water with my slowest swim time to date. I'm convinced it was due to swimming off course and that I actually swam more like 1.5 miles...
The bike was good. The sun was shining and the head wind wasn't too mean coming in. I even got to ride right past my old house in San Clemente before turning into Camp Pendleton. There were some good climbs but I felt good and was able to stay on pace.
I came in the run feeling great and ready to go, and was surprised to feel my legs carry me through and easy first 6 mile loop. I kept up my pace and felt so good, I crossed the finish line with a sub 2 hour run! This was a big monkey off my back for sure. I've never felt so strong running after a long bike, I even felt good at the end and am not too sore, yet!
To top it off, despite a lame swim, a tough bike course, I was able to PR on my 70.3 time :)
Now I'm feeling good!
