Sue Bird Seventh Most Popular Female Athlete in The Harris Poll

The yearly Harris Poll has named the Seattle Storm's Sue Bird as the seventh most popular female athlete in the United States. She was tied overall with retired tennis champion Martina Navratilova.

Six of the top ten female athletes are tennis players - the only non-tennis players are race car driver Danica Patrick at #3, retired soccer player Mia Hamm at #5 and beach volleyball player Kerry Walsh tied with golfer Michele Wie for the #9 spot.

Serena Williams was the #1 favorite female star among both men and women. She was also the favorite among all age groups, except for those between 18 to 34, where Venus Williams was the favorite. Among groupings by race/ethnicity, there was disagreement: Danica Patrick was the favorite female athlete among whites and Serena Williams was the favorite among blacks. Among Hispanics, Danica Patrick and Sue Bird tied as the favorite.
