UConn is set to tip off for it's final dress rehearsal tomorrow at 7:00 PM at the XL Center.
Don't expect much of a game or even a challenge: the Huskies biggest hurdle might be maneuvering rush hour traffic to get to the game on time.
The Indiana University of Pennsylvania is 0-2 in exhibition play. They have dropped contests to James Madison University (58-76) and American University (47-73) while the UConn Huskies are coming off a convincing win over Division II Franklin Pierce (112-41).
IUP has been out-rebounded handily in both games 51-81, while rebounding was one of many bright spots for the young Huskies . The Crimson Hawks are hampered by their lack of height, with only one player over 6'0". They have been led in scoring, during exhibition play, by reserve Eryn Withers averaging 11 points, Sarah Pastorek averaging 9 points and Brianna Johnson averaging 8 points.
The Crimson Hawks were picked to finish 2nd in their division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) behind California, after finishing the 2009-2010 campaign 17-10.
UConn is coming off of two undefeated seasons of 39-0 and return Player of the Year Maya Moore. UConn was lead in their first exhibition game by junior guard Tiffany Hayes with 25 points, 4 rebounds and Moore with 24 points, 4 rebounds.
UConn shouldn't be challenged but Coach Geno Auriemma should have no trouble keeping his team's attention. After this exhibition, Baylor will be the opponent the next time that the ball is tipped at the XL Center for a little more on the line than just breaking a sweat.
Players to Watch:
- Stephanie Dolson/ Heather Buck (UCONN) - Coach Geno Auriemma said during his press conference, following the Franklin Pierce victory, that the center position will be a worry for him all year. Dolson and Buck will have ample playing time to show that they are perhaps ready for prime time over a much smaller front line.
- Lacey Claar - The senior guard needs 155 to score 1,000 points for her career. She is 1st in IUP history in 3 point percentage and a Pre-Season All Conference Selection. While her numbers haven't been stellar this preseason (5 ppg), she is due for a break out performance.
