In keeping with SB Nation’s innovative use of social media in reshaping sports journalism, our vision is a women's basketball site that goes beyond merely providing game reports; instead, we want to capture the narratives that fuel our passion for the game, while maintaining the critical stance that helps us understand the game better.

Quick Analysis: LA Sparks sign Courtney Paris & Chanel Mokango

This was a move that might have been expected last summer given news that Courtney Paris was in Los Angeles after being released by the Chicago Sky - the Sparks needed rebounding and Courtney Paris was actually among the best rebounders by percentage in the league in 2009 for the Sacramento Monarchs.

Yes, merely having Candace Parker healthy again would help the Sparks improve upon their league-low rebounding percentage from 2010, but Paris' rookie offensive rebounding numbers in particular make her a very promising presence on the offensive end. With the addition of Ebony Hoffman, continued development from Kristi Toliver, and Noelle Quinn shooting a career-high 40% from beyond the arc last season, the Sparks suddenly have the makings of a pretty potent half court team with strong interior play flanked by shooters.

Mokango was with the team last season and never played more than 11 minutes. Atlanta Dream coach Marynell Meadors drafted her in the first round last season but suggested she just needs more basketball experience.
