In keeping with SB Nation’s innovative use of social media in reshaping sports journalism, our vision is a women's basketball site that goes beyond merely providing game reports; instead, we want to capture the narratives that fuel our passion for the game, while maintaining the critical stance that helps us understand the game better.

Gonzaga's Graves, Vandersloot Earn Top WCC Individual Awards

The Gonzaga Bulldogs did pretty well in the WCC end of season awards with coach Kelly Graves winning Coach of the Year and Katelan Redmon, Kayla Standish, and Courtney Vandersloot being named to All-Conference Team while Janelle Bekkering earned honorable mention.

With Vandersloot also winning Player of the Year, the WCC video above adds one more thing to her Nancy Lieberman Award resume: the 5'8" guard is on pace to become the first player in NCAA history with 2,000 points and 1,000 assists. You'll also recall that she is one of only four players with 1,000 assists and the second with 1,000 points and 1,000 assists. The only reason I can imagine that she doesn't enter the national media discussion about top point guard in the nation more often is that she isn't on national television much - if you actually watch her play more than once, it becomes difficult to question her ability and court vision due to strength of competition.
