Who? The Bulldogs of Gonzaga. Zags is also an acceptable nickname.

What? Spike seems like a pretty cool dog. Before they were Bulldogs, they were the Fighting Irish, because Gonzaga wanted to be the Notre Dame of the West.

Where? Spokane, Washington. It's Spo-CAN, not Spo-CAIN.

When? March 7th, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the night turns into daytime.

Why? Because they won the West Coast Conference tournament.

How? Courtney Vandersloot posted 18 points and 16 asissts, and Gonzaga pulled away in the second half to post a 72-46 win over St. Mary's.

Surprise? Nope. The Zags ran undefeated through the conference season, finishing four games up on St. Mary's.

Who's driving this thing, anyway? Kelly Graves, since 2000. He's been all over the WCC.

SOS: 163

Record: 28-4

Best win: BYU (H)

Worst loss: Mississippi (N)

Notable results: Stanford (L, H, 84-78), Notre Dame (L, N, 70-61)

Exceptional senior point guard Courtney Vandersloot is the engine that makes this team go. She averages a double-double with 18.6 points and over 10 assists per game- but a point guard can't get assists without players hitting shots, and junior forwards Kayla Standish (17.3 ppg) and Katelan Redmon (16.6) both shoot over 55% from the field; the Zags are only a few bad rolls away from shooting 50% from the field as a team.
