The Barrel Racing Blog, in partnership with On the Road with Dawn and Clea, is supporting the Fourth Annual Susan Rowe Fryer Memorial Barrel Race and Roping. We’re truly excited to tell you much more about this amazing event. Thanks to Sara Spisak for writing up this information and providing these photos for us!
$250.00 Added Cowgirls Barrel Race: $25.00 Entry 70% payback. Can run 2 horses.
Barrel Race will begin at 10 a.m.

This year will mark the fourth year for the Susan Rowe Fryer Memorial. The event, which includes Cowgirl barrel racing, Tie down Roping, Cowgirl Breakaway Roping and Team Roping, is held to commemorate Susan Rowe Fryer, who lost her two-year battle with breast cancer in October of 2007. Susan left behind a husband and 2 young boys.
Money made from this event will be donated to the Shirley Bowman Foundation and Mt. Carmel Foundation in Susan’s name. Since 2008, when it all began, over $17,000 has been donated, 100% towards patient care to Mt. Caramel and The Shirley Bowman Foundation.

New this year to the event, is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to an eligible Ohio high school rodeo member. Susan was the first recipient of the scholarship when it was first introduced in 1987, sponsored by Rich Bradshaw.
Susan attended Pratt Community College, Pratt KS, on a rodeo scholarship for goat tying, barrel racing and breakaway roping. The following year, she transferred to Murray State in Kentucky and qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo, in goat tying. The finals were held in Bozeman Montana.
There will be a raffle for a Shorty’s 100X hat. Tickets are $10.00 each and are available until the day of the drawing. To purchase your ticket now contact Sarah Rowe: (330) 831-2620.
A BIG Thank You to Rick and Carrie Simmons for their support, along with all the class sponsors, volunteers and past participants.
We’ll see you there. The event is rodeo format. Dress code long sleeve shirt, jeans and boots, hat optional. Wear PINK! There will be a silent auction, Shorty’s hat raffle and food and drink available for purchase.

The Shirley Bowman Clinic at the OU Cancer Institute Commitment from Shorty Kroger (Shorty’s Caboy Hattery) in memory of her sister, Shirley Bowman, to raise $250,000 to endow a fund to support the Shirley Bowman Nutrition Clinic. Part of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Shirley Bowman Foundation in Susan Rowe Fryer’s name.
