SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 20, 2011) – The matchup is now set for the WPS Championship presented by Citi as the Philadelphia Independence advance to the final after defeating magicJack, 2-0 in Saturday’s WPS Super Semifinal at PPL Park in Chester, PA. The Independence will now face Regular Season Champion Western New York Flash - who have been lying in wait for their opponent since the end of the regular season - in the WPS Championship match on Saturday, August 27.

Fans at PPL Park were treated to a world class match as Philadelphia and magicJack both delivered championship quality play in the Super Semifinal. Tasha Kai scored her second career postseason goal, just seconds into the second half breaking the 0-0 stalemate that carried over from the first 45’. Amy Rodriguez added to Philly’s lead, coupling her speed with composure to score her second career playoff goal in the 81st minute of play, stretching her team’s lead to two goals. Philly’s defensive line, which proved to be one of the best in the regular season, came through again, turning away the cunning attacking force of Abby Wambach and company to shut out magicJack and help earn their place in the Championship.

Philadelphia will now move on to the Championship where they will face the highly touted attacking trio of Marta, Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair. The top two teams from the 2011 WPS Regular Season met three times in 2011 with Philly taking two of the three meetings, including the only match between the two at Sahlen’s Stadium. While Western New York is the more productive overall goal scoring team, having netted 40 goals in the regular season, Philadelphia has outscored the Flash head-to-head, 4-3.

The WPS Championship presented by Citi will be produced by FOX Soccer in High Definition, and broadcast nationally, live on Fox Sports Net. Click Here to view local listings for WPS Championship.
