PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State softball team will get to face some of the best players in the world on Wednesday when the Vikings host the National Pro Fastpitch All-Star team at Erv Lind Stadium.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for youth 17 and under. Group rates of $5 are also available. For more information, call 503-725-3307.

Wednesday's game will be the last of the fall for PSU before they begin winter workouts. The Vikings open their 2012 slate on Feb. 10 in Tempe, Arizona.
The NPF team is made up of players from the league's four teams – the Akron Racers, the Chicago Bandits, the NPF Diamonds and the USSSA Florida Pride. The team in in the midst of a 19-game, 17-stop Back to School Tour.
Headlining the list of players for the NPF squad is Beaverton, Ore., native Ashley Charters. A 5-foot-9 second baseman, Charters played at Washington from 2005-09, helping the Huskies to the 2009 NCAA title. She made the US National Team in her first tryout in 2009 and was also on the squad last year. In high school, Charters was a two-time Oregon state Player of the Year while at Southridge.
Also on the team are three athletes from the 2008 Canadian National Team that took fourth at the Beijing Olympics: Danielle Lawrie, Caitlin Lever and Jenn Salling. Lawrie and Salling were teammates with Charters at Washington when the Huskies won the NCAA title.
Other members of the team are 2008 US Olympians Caitlin Lowe and Andrea Duran. Lowe played at Arizona, winning national titles in 2006 and 2007, while Duran won a pair of national championships at UCLA in 2003 and 2004.
Last week it was announced that two-time US Olympic team member Jessica Mendoza would play in the game, but the former Stanford great will not be able to attend. A softball analyst for ESPN when she isn't playing, Mendoza is headed to Knoxville to work the South Carolina-Tennessee football game.
