Kansas City Shock Head Coach Wendy Louque Finalist Among NSCAA Board of Directors

Kansas City, Kan. - Kansas City Shock Head Coach Wendy Louque is making moves during the off-season, off the field and in the office. The NSCAA announced its final candidates for the 2014 Board of Directors election process today. Coach Louque is one of three finalists up for vote in the category of, “Girls Youth Representative”.

On top of her coaching duties with the Shock; Louque is an assistant coach with MidAmerica Nazarene University; a women’s soccer program under the NAIA umbrella. She is also currently a staff coach for Toca FC, a youth program based in the Kansas City area. A nod towards this potential board position would add to her accolades in previous NSCAA history. Louque is currently the first junior college assistant coach and only female to win the Junior College National Assistant Coach of the Year award while assisting at Johnson County Community College. In her first season with the Kansas City Shock she combined a league record of 6-3, making the Shock one of only two newly formed teams to qualify for the 2013 Women’s Premier Soccer League playoffs.

Her deep commitment and experience with women’s soccer is evident in a Q&A session shown in the NSCAA Soccer Journal this month. Below is one excerpt taken including Coach Louque’s thoughts.

“Were I elected to the NSCAA Board of Directors, it is my intention to be active in making the experience of girls soccer a positive one. Social media (twitter especially) makes it very evident that there is a tight-knit soccer culture among girls in the US. Because coaches are influential in the lives of their players, coaches of girls’ teams are especially important in this day and age. They can teach their players how to interact/relate/work with others, how to build self-esteem and how to handle constructive criticism. I believe soccer can serve as a microcosm for life’s experiences establishing character, tenacity and  camaraderie at an early age.”

“It’s great when we’re able to boast about the accomplishments of our players on and off the field throughout the season”, stated Kansas City Shock CEO Shawn Daugherty, “With that said, when you have a head coach that has worked this hard, and is this devoted towards growing women’s soccer in the United States at all levels. It’s an honor for the Kansas City Shock to back an individual with such character and determination.”

Ballots are currently open for all NSCAA members. They must be submitted electronically and there will not be an on-site ballot voting process at the 2014 NSCAA Convention.
