ROSEMONT, Ill. – February 12, 2014 - Chicago Bandits GM Aaron M. Moore announced the re-signing of shortstop Tammy Williams for the 2014 season. This will be her fifth season in a Bandits uniform.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue playing for my fifth season with the Bandits,” said Williams. “I can’t wait to get this 2014 season started and get back to work bring the Cowles Cup trophy back to our amazing fans and the Village of Rosemont.”
The 10th overall pick in the 2009 NPF College Draft out of Northwestern University, Williams quickly made a name for herself in the league capturing both Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
“Championship teams are most often built through the middle and that makes the re-signing of Tammy even more important to the Bandits,” exclaimed Moore. “She is an absolute gamer that brings it each time she steps on the field. Not only does she bring the best out of her own teammates, but she also brings out the best in the fans and the opposition.
“Tammy is definitely a big piece to the Bandits and to the NPF as a whole.”
After spending the 2010 season with Team USA and Team Denzo of the Japan Softball League, Williams has come back and been a consistent and fierce part of the Bandits defense.
Her 68 putouts were second best among shortstops while she led the league with 96 assists, turning 14 double plays with a fielding percentage of .948.
At the plate, she batted .362 with 21 RBIs including five homeruns with an on-base percentage of .401 and 10 stolen bases.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Tammy back for another season,” said Bandits head coach, Mike Steuerwald. “There is no better competitor or player I want anchoring the middle of our defense on a daily basis.
“She is a constant when it comes to her work ethic and preparation to get herself ready each and every game.”
