How A Skateboard Legend Is Using Her Skateboard To Improve The Future For Girls Through Girls Riders Organization, Inc.

New York, New York – July 24, 2014 – Skateboards are purchased everyday around the world.  But when the Girls is NOT a 4 Letter Word skateboard is purchased, it makes a difference by supporting the future of girls through skateboarding.

Cindy Whitehead is spreading the message that being a girl is a positive thing.  In a world that often says, “you’re pretty good, for a girl”, she helps girls know that it is not a putdown to be labeled a girl.  Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word.

Working with Dusters California and Dwindle Distribution, and bringing in Longboarding for Peace, Cindy has created the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word complete cruiser skateboard.  Already available around the country, this skateboard not only fosters a positive message to females, it also supports growing a better future for girls through skateboarding.

For every board sold, Cindy donates 100% of her personal profits from the sales to Girls Riders Organization (GRO) to support GRO in inspiring, educating, and supporting girls through action sports.

“GRO is honored that Cindy Whitehead, a true legend and inspiration for girl skaters, included the organization both on the skateboard graphic and in her message.   The donations have already made a significant impact on our organization.  Through her support, GRO has been able to build community chapters that increase the reach to more females than was ever possible before.”    -   Courtney Payne Taylor, Founder, GRO

Skateboarding and action sports participation is growing rapidly with girls of all ages starting to ride.  Skateboarding builds confidence, provides a positive outlet and helps keep girls active longer in life.  Skateboarding inspires girls to believe in themselves and empowers girls to know they are capable to do anything they set their mind to.

The GN4LW board and message have already been included in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History's sports collections and shared through Cindy’s recent TED x Talk - and that’s just the beginning.  The skateboard will be available through the end of the year and continues making an incredible impact on GRO’s opportunities for girls.

About Cindy Whitehead/Girl is NOT A 4 Letter Word

"Live life balls to the wall.  Do epic shit. Take every dare that comes your way. You can sleep when you're dead”. This is the personal motto of Cindy Whitehead.

She conquered the male dominated profession of pro vert skateboarding in the 70's,
and quickly became one of the top ranked professional female vert skateboarders in the U.S. for pool riding and half-pipe. To this day, Cindy still holds the distinction of being the only female to be featured in the centerfold plus a two-page article in a skateboarding magazine, and is the only female skateboarder to have been sponsored by Puma.

Since then, Cindy has gone on to coin the term "Sports Stylist®," working as a fashion stylist specializing in sports, with companies like Gatorade, Nike, the NBA, and athletes such as Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and Mia Hamm.

Last year she made national headlines by skateboarding down the closed 405 freeway in Los Angeles. In June of 2013 Cindy flew to Washington, DC to sign over some of her skateboard history to The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History’s sports collections.

Cindy has been profiled in magazines and sites such as, ESPN, The Huffington Post, & Women’s Wear Daily, and has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows. She was asked to be a featured speaker in Washington, DC at The Smithsonian Museum’s Innoskate event, and recently gave her first TED x talk in Santa Monica California..

About Dwindle/Dusters California

Dusters California name, started in 2012, was inspired by a muscle car produced back in 1970. The Plymouth Duster, was a performance car that provided a tremendous bang for the buck and despite its smaller size it put many big muscle cars to shame. Dusters also implies speed, wild dirt races and fast performance.

Created by skate legend and Dwindle Distribution’s Don of Business Development, Steve Douglas and creative director Nano Nobrega, the collection of boards embraces the heritage of the California skate and surf lifestyle.

Dwindle Distribution, based in El Segundo, California, United States (US), was, as of January 2005, the world's largest skateboard company and is a component of Globe International Limited.  The company was originally founded by Steve Rocco and  Rodney Mullen, with its formation recognized as a key event in the creation of a skateboard industry owned by those individuals actively involved in the skateboarding lifestyle.

Dusters vintage look is inspired by traditional, retro shaped skateboards, but built with the newest technology for stability and speed. Dusters California offers a variety of classic longboards and cruisers that truly embody the old-school image and feel.  The high quality constructed boards provide a relaxed ride that allows you to surf sidewalks and carve pools like it was done in the 70’s, but with more ease and maneuverability.

Our goal is to restores the passion and innovation of skateboarding from the Z-Boys days and bring it to modern times.

Dusters California, originating from the heart and soul of skateboarding.
