Dawn Harper with the American flag after winning gold in Beijing (latimes.com)

Dawn Harper won gold in the 100m hurdles at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, surprising everyone except those who know her well. Harper has been a star athlete since her high school days in Illinois and was a standout at UCLA. However, she hadn't even won a national championship yet when she won gold in Beijing. In 2009 Harper proved she was here to stay by winning USA's and setting a PR of 12.48 in the World Championships semifinals, though she struggled to a 7th place finish after hitting the second hurdle in the final. Harper struggled with some injuries in 2010 but is back healthy and ready to go for the win in Daegu this August!

Check out the video below, where 2004 Olympic gold medalist (also in the 100m hurdles) Joanna Hayes interviews her good friend about her plans for 2011 as she gets worked on at the 2011 Mt. SAC Relays.
