I'm a student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. I'm graduating in May with a BS in Organizational and Public Communication and a minor Recreation Management. I love running most days. Steepling is my forte, or at least I'd like to think so;). My goal is to strive for women's equality in athletics and in life.

I love birthdays! Today we get to celebrate a bill that did so much for women in sports. Despite the many people who oppose this bill in today’s world, I would like to say thank you to those who fought for this bill. You fought for your generation and the thousands of women in the following generations to come…including me! For that, I can’t help but celebrate!

It’s shocking to me that 40 years ago this bill was not around. Women didn’t have the right to play high school, college, or professional sports. Forty years is nothin’! Forty is the new 20! That is young…especially when you think about how old our country is. It seems that this bill should have been implemented into law long before it did. This just highlights, even more, that we are still in the beginning stages of equality in sports. Title IX was step #1.

I’m so happy to have benefited from Title IX and to have been able to see it benefit my friends, teammates, and mentors. Today, especially, imagine what it would have been like to not have the money or RIGHTS to play the sport you love. No matter what gender you are you can imagine how awful that would be. Learn from the past and keep truckin’ forward!

Happy birthday, Title IX. <3

Feel the passion.
