I was recently "challenged" to be part of the Glam Correspondent Program for the Nike Training Club. I couldn’t resist being called a “Glam Correspondent" and, since I'm so competitive, I figured I couldn't turn down the opportunity to have a new fancy title AND get buff while I'm at it. After doing a little reading and watching, I found out that the Nike Training Club is an application you can download onto your phone that acts as your personal trainer; a personal trainer you can bring with you everywhere you go so you can utilize it anytime you want to get in a workout. After you pick which workout you'd like to do, between the “Get Lean”, “Get Toned”, “Get Strong”, or “Get Focused” categories, you are on your way to a killer workout.

I downloaded the Nike Training Club app on my iPhone a few days ago and paroozed it for a bit, trying to get a feel for what I was getting myself into during this 6 week challenge. I knew this would a very different exercise than I am used to, so I jacked myself up and I decided that today would be the day I would begin my new fitness journey with you all. I turned on my iPhone, clicked on the Nike Training Club app and picked the Intermediate “Get Toned” series. From there you could pick from a list of different exercise "sessions" that ranged from 15-45 minutes. I chose the first one on the list, the “Circuit Challenge”. It started off with a warm up and then went into variety of different agility and strengthening exercises. My abs, arms, and legs were getting more and more fatigued. I had always thought running was the only way I could get in a good exercise, but, if I do say so myself, I totally worked this workout and I was t-i-r-e-d. It was great!! I guess this means running has stiff competition now.

Although I didn't previously know how to do about 75% of the drills, like the frog jump, it was very easy to figure out. We distance runners tend to stick with going one direction...forward, not side to side or jumping up and down, so apparently I have been living under a rock all these years. Luckily, the app had my naivete covered by giving me a tutorial on how to do every exercise so I didn't have to waste workout time to Google every exercise I was supposed to be doing. I just clicked on a button and a woman showed up doing the exercise properly so I could replicate it. Easy as pie! Another great feature was that the voice of the Nike Training Club talked to me during the workout. She reminded me to keep proper form, like “keep your abs tight” and "squeeze your shoulder blades together." She also gave me a heads up when I was half way through my exercise, so I knew that I was almost done.

I would say that this first workout was a success! I am honestly excited to do more and more of these exercises as my 6 weeks of the Nike Training Club app challenge continues! Join me by downloading the app to your phone so we can go through the challenge of a stronger body together! If I haven't convinced you yet, the chance of winning free stuff should! By starting up this workout plan, Nike will give you a chance to enter to win Nike gear that will help you get to your fitness goals (tune in to my next post about my Nike Training Club adventures on August 10th for more information on how to score some free stuff). I’ll be tweeting about my progress too. Follow me at @stephmperl and share with me your experience with this too!
