One of my best friends from college, who I ran cross country and track and field with, lives near by me in the Milwaukee area. We try to get together as often as we can to catch up. Sometimes we go to movies, sometimes we play bingo at the casino, but most of the time we go for walk/runs in one another’s others neighborhood. Do not be confused by what we consider fun activities, I promise that we are 23 years old, and we are more than proud of our more elderly-like types of fun. Bingo is fun at any age! Well, we hadn't had any of that fun in a while so I decided I would call her to see when she would be free next. After catching up a bit she laid down some big news-she bought an iPhone. She was so excited when she told me the news. This was a big step for her. She had been an avid Droid user for years but decided she wanted to make the leap to the “good” side. Immediately after congratulating her on her purchase, she blurted out “I downloaded the Nike Training Club app.!”
I am going to stick with the story that my doing the Nike Training Club app and thus overloading her Facebook and Twitter pages with stories of my Nike Training Club app success/love inspired her to buy the iPhone so she could have a similar experience. So, that may not be the exact reason that she got the iPhone but it is pretty cool that the NTC was the second most important thing she had to tell me during our conversation. My immediate thought after the news was that we now had one more thing to add to our list of fun: Group Nike Training Clup app sessions!
I walked into her house to find her sitting on the couch holding her iPod speakers, in her workout gear, scanning through the different workouts to find some good options for our NTC workout. I almost laughed because she seemed so hardcore...I loved it. She told me that she had already done two of the workouts and was really sore, but was up for a 45 minute Get Lean workout. I agreed because I hadn't tried any of the Get Lean workouts and the longest workout I had done was 30 minutes. Bring it on Nike Training Club, bring it on.

We put my iPhone in the speakers and had hers "silenced" (well as silenced as we could get it) so that we would both get credit and hopefully unlock our next reward. The intense woman started talking and we knew it was time for business. It turned out to be business with a lot of laughing. I figure it was a secondary ab workout that only helped us. Doing the exercises in front of someone else sometime felt silly, but we were able to correct each other with the knowledge we had from the workouts we already had done. I was motivated even more to not take cheat breaks, especially during the push-ups where I am still very weak. We are corny, which may not surprise you after seeing our list of fun, so, obviously, we gave each other a high five during every scheduled recovery minute. The first Nike Training Club app workout with a friend was a success!
I was really happy to be able to do the workout with someone else. Although this workout is great solo, all exercise seems better when there is someone else there to take your mind off the strain and sweat. I know several people who have seen my posts about the challenge have mentioned that they couldn't get the app because they don't have the iPhone. And now, what I have to say to you is, listen to Nike- "Just do it", my friend did!. Or Nike, could you "just do it" and make the app for other phones?
