I am a product of Milwaukee. I went to an all-girls high school where soccer was queen. Unfortunately, Milwaukee is not leading the way in women's sports. We don't have a professional women's basketball or soccer team and, as a result, are very few organizations to become involved with.

Then Scott Viar and the Milwaukee United Soccer Club found me on Twitter. After hearing about his goals to bring a women's soccer team to Milwaukee, I realized I was not a lone Milwaukeean on the quest to promoting girl's/women's sports in this town.

Viar has over 30 years of soccer playing and coaching experience. He is using his past successes and experiences in soccer to another level. Whereas most of the soccer teams and leagues in the area can be found in suburban Milwaukee cities, where they have access to fields, equipment, etc. and funds to join club teams, the Milwaukee United Soccer Club has different aims. They want to "allow any player within the county an opportunity to play the game at an elite, competitive level."

The goal is to produce a team of post-high school athletes that will play in a regional or national-level summer league.

To make this team possible, the organization has started an indiegogo fundraising campaign. Donations range from $1 to $500. The money raised will secure the Milwaukee United Soccer Club membership into the 2013 season as well as purchase equipment.

Their fundraising description says it best:

By helping Milwaukee United Soccer Club get off the ground, you will be offering girls and women in our community the opportunity to continue in the game (either on or off-the-field) while also providing them a platform from which to pursue academic, athletic, and professional goals.
