The Chicago Sky Selects Elena Delle Donne Second Overall in 2013 WNBA Draft
CHICAGO, April 15, 2013 — The Chicago Sky has selected University of Delaware guard/forward Elena Delle Donne with the second overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft. In 2013, Delle Donne led the Blue Hen’s to Delaware’s first appearance at the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
Delle Donne, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, averaged 26 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as a senior. She recorded over 30 points per game 37 times throughout her collegiate career and reached a high of 54 points against James Madison in 2010. Delle Donne is the fifth all-time leading scorer (3,039 career points) in the NCAA, surpassing notables Maya Moore and Chamique Holdsclaw.
"Elena's complete skill set for a player that stands 6’5” along with her basketball IQ is what makes her such a special player. Simply put, she can hurt you in a variety of ways on the offensive end of the floor. She met the challenge of carrying her team into the national spotlight, and I believe that journey will serve her well as she embarks upon her WNBA career.”
Delle Donne is a three-time CAA Player of the Year and four-time All-American. In 2012 and 2013, she added Wooden and WBCA All-American honors to her list of accolades. In 2013, she was recognized for her dedication to education, sport and the community upon received the Senior CLASS and Honda Inspiration awards.
The Chicago Sky also has the fourth pick (28th overall) in the third round of the 2013 WNBA Draft.
