*For the second time in the last three weeks it took extra holes to determine the winner on the LPGA tour. This past Sunday it was Angela Stanford who prevailed at the HSBC Women’s Championship in Singapore. At the end of the final round Stanford was joined at –10 by Shanshan Feng, Na Yeon Choi and Jenny Shin. She went on to eliminate each player one by one before finally securing the victory on the third playoff hole. Just missing the chance to vie for the title was world No. 1 Yani Tseng who finished one shot out of the playoff. Along with collecting $210,000, Stanford also picked up her 5th tour win. The Texan has played on four Solheim cup teams and has earned over six million dollars in her twelve year career.

*With Stanford’s win this past weekend in Singapore and Jessica Korda’s victory in Melbourne to start out the season, the American’s find themselves 2-1 on the year. Last time the American’s had such a strong start to the season was 2007.

*Singapore featured sixty-three of the top golfer’s on the tour and did not have a cut. Some player’s however might have preferred having the weekend off. Thirty players finished the tournament over par including a handful of the tour’s top players.  Michelle Wie came in second to last at +22 and found herself apologizing after the final round due to slamming her club in frustration after an errant drive on the 17th hole. “I absolutely apologize for that," she said after finishing her round. "It's unacceptable behavior. Sometimes it's just really frustrating, and I was at that point where everything kind of boiled up."

Wie has also recently switched to a gluten free diet inspired by the success tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has achieved since making the change in his own diet. "I heard that story that he turned gluten free and became number one in the world" Wie stated in Singapore. She went on to say that she was feeling better overall even though it had only been a few weeks. This was Wie’s second tournament of the season after finishing T-38 the week prior in Thailand. Wie is also slated to graduate in the next few weeks from Stanford.

*Fan favorite Paula Creamer had to withdraw after the second round. It was not due to illness on her part but rather because her grandfather had fallen ill. She tweeted this to her fans: “As you know I WD prior to 3rd round in Singapore. Flew to NY. At Pops bedside for 48 hrs straight. I love him so much. Praying for best.”

*The next stop for the ladies is the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup March 15-18 in Phoenix, Arizona.
