Track & Field/Road Racing Roundup: Doha Samsung Diamond League & more

This past weekend was full of conference meets for most college runners ( you can catch up on all the action here) which means that most of the elite track and field athletes had to travel to find competition.

Samsung Diamond League Doha- Allyson Felix showed the world that she can win the 100 meters too. Felix ran 10.92 winning over the Jamaica duo of Veronica Campbell-Brown (10.94) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (11.00).  Kenya’s Pamela Jelimo won the 800 meters in 1:56.94 over Fantu Magiso (1:57.90) and Janeth Jepkosgei Busienei (1:58.50). American Molly Beckwith placed 6^th in 1:59.51. Jamaica’s Brigitte Foster-Hylton won the 100 meter hurdles in 12.60 followed by U.S.’s Kellie Wells in 12.72 and Canada’s Phylica George in 12.79.

Cayman Invitational- U.S.’s Carmelita Jeter took the win in the 100 meters with a time of 11.04 over Jeneba Tarmoh (11.13) and Muriel Ahoure (11.14).  Cydonie Mothersill won the 200 meters in 23.51 followed by Milisa Barber (23.57) and Muriel Ahoure (23.63).  In the 400 meters, Jamaica’s Novelene Williams-Mills won in 50.35. In second was Canada’s Jenna Martin in 51.73 and in third was the U.S.’s Keshia Baker in 51.73. The U.S.’s Ginnie Crawford won the 100 meter hurdles in 12.66 followed by Kristin Castlin in 12.68 and Shermaine Williams in 12.98.  In the 800 meters, Canada’s Melissa Bishop took the win in 2:01.81 followed by American high school runner Ajee Wilson in 2:05.29 and Melaine Hardy in 2:07.50.  Nigeria’s Ajoke Odumosu won the 400 meter hurdles in 55.09. She was followed by the American duo of Tiffany Williams (55.16) and Queen Harrison (56.84).

2012 Virginia Challenge Results (videos here)- Stateside, many athletes headed to the Virginia to race. Mary Wineberg doubled up winning the 400 meters in 52.06 and the 200 meters in 23.85. Maggie Infield won the 800 meters in 2:03 ahead of Devotia Moore who ran a 2:03.97.
