This past week, NCAA prelims happened in both Jacksonville, Florida and Austin, Texas. While there were ultimately winners the main goal was to make it to Des Moines to for the NCAA finals on June 6. 12 qualified from each prelim, complete list of qualifiers can be found in the results. Meanwhile, professional runners were still chasing standards and honing race tactics in the lead up to the Olympic trials.  This next weekend fans can look forward to the Pre Classic at Hayward field.

West Prelim (videos here)-  In the women’s 100 meters,  Oregon’s English Gardner had the fastest qualifying time with an 11.06.  Houston’s Grecia Bolton had the second fastest in 11.22 followed by Katie Nelms with 11.40.  It was a Texas school sweep in the 200 meters for the three fastest with Texas A&M’s Dominique Duncan (22.95) , Ashley Collier (22.97) and Texas’s Christy Udoh (23.04).  Kansas’s Diamond Dixon had the fastest qualifying time in the 400 meters with a time of 51.71. Arkansas’s Regina George (52.34) and Oregon’s Phyllis Francis (52.36) rounded out the top three.  Texas’s A&M’s Donique Flemings had the faster 100 meter hurdles time in 12.96 followed by Arkansas State’s Sharika Nelvis (12.99) and  Arkansas’s Ivanique Kemp.

 BYU’s Nachelle Mackie outrun the rest of her first heat in the 800 meters in a time of 2:02.64.  Stanford’s Justine Fedronic won her heat in 2:05.57.  Kansas State’s Boglarka Bozzay rounds out the top three with a 2:06.28.  With her long blonde ponytail, Oregon’s Jordan Hasay had the quickest qualifying time in the 1500 meters in 4:16.29.  Oklahoma’s Natalja Piliusina had the second quickest time in 4:16.61 followed by Oregon’s Becca Friday in 4:15.76.  Colorado’s Shayla Kip was the only steepler to go under the 10:00 mark running a 9:58.38 easily gaping the rest of the field.  Weber State’s Amber Henry won her heat in 10:05.11.   Oregon’s Melanie Thompson rounds out the top three in 9:58.38.  Washington’s Megan Gothels won her heat of the 5k, kicking away from Texas A&M’s Natosha Rogers (15:50.13) in 15:46.82.  Stanford’s Kathy Kroeger won her heat in much of the same fashion in 16:16.07. Wichita State’s Aliphine Tulimuk won the 10k in 33:31.54 followed by Natosha Rogers in 33:47.12 and Allison Woodward in 33:51.70.

East Prelim(videos here)- LSU’s Kimberlyn Duncan had the fastest 100 meter time in 11.18 followed by UCF duo of Octavious  Freeman (11.20) and Aurieyall Scott (11.38). LSU duo of Kimberlyn Duncan (22.22) and Semoy Hackett (22.55) took the first two spots in 200 meter dash. Clemson’s Marlena Wesh had the fastest qualifying time in the 400 meters dash in 51.59 followed by LSU’s Rebecca Alexander (51.89) and Florida’s Lanie Wittaker ( 52.22).  In the 800 meters, it was Tennessee senior, Chanelle Price with the fastest qualifying time with a 2:02.64. LSU’s Charlene Lipsey (2:04.08) and North Carolina’s Tasha Stanley (2:05.10) rounded out the top three.  Ohio State’s Christina Manning had the fastest qualifying time in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 12.78 followed by UCF’s Jackie Coward (12.96) and Clemsons Bridgette Owens (13.01).  Tennessee’s Ellen Wortham had the quickest qualifying time in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.70 followed by LSU’s Cassandra Tate (56.40) and Clemson’s Kendra Harrison (56.72).

In the 1500 meters, it was Priceton’s Greta Feldmen with the fastest qualifying time in 4:15.00 . Florida State’s Hannah Brooks won her heat in 4:18.72. Providence’s Emily Sisson won her heat in the 5000 meters in 15:53.62. Dartmouth’s Abbey D’Agostino won the other heat in 16:15.35. Virginia’s Catherine White took the win in the 10k with a time of 34:18.82 followed by Vermont’s Morgan Powers (34:19.38) and Cornell’s Katie Kellner (34:22.98).  In the steeple, Florida State’s Astrid Leutert won her heat in 9:53.15. Dartmouth’s Alexi Pappas won her heat in 9:55.89.

Bolder Boulder 10k- In this cross country scored event ( though top 3 and not top 5), Ethiopia’s Mamitu Daska took the win in 33:05.25 to lead her team to the win with 15 points. The U.S.’s Janet Cherobon-Bawcom (33:22.32) and Deena Kastor (33:27.23) led the USA to the a second place finish with 24 points. Kenya was third with 35 points.

Ostrava Golden Spike Athletics Meeting- Veronica Campbell-Brown won the 200 meters in 22.38 followed by Bianca Knight (22.85) and Tiffany Townsend (23.18).  Sanya Richards-Ross took the win in the 400 meters with a time of 50.65. Christine Ohuruogu was second in 51.19 and Patricia Hall was third in 51.75.
