Labor Day weekend did not mean that track and field athletes took the weekend off. There was still plenty of action on the roads and track including USA 20k championships, World Mountain running champions, Zagreb World Challenge and Zurich Diamond League.

28th World Mountain Running Championships- The USA women won the team title at the World Mountain Running Championships.  The championships were held in Ponte di Legno, Italy on an 8.8 km course that was mostly uphill.  The four member team scored 18 points to beat Italy by 11 points.  The Swiss team was third with 58 points.  Morgan Arritola led the team with a third place finish in a time of 47:26.

USA 20k Road Championships- The race came down to two athletes, Renee Metevier Baillie and Molly Pritz. It was Baillie who took the win in 1:07.08 over Pritz (1:07.21). Baillie’s next race will be the Chicago marathon.  The next four in after Pritz were Stephanie Rothstein, Serena Burla, Adriana Pirtea and Alisha Williams.

2012 Zurich Diamond League- The duels between Shelly-Ann Fraser- Pryce and Carmelita Jeter continue and this time Fraser-Pryce took the win in 10.83 followed by Jeter (10.97) and Allyson Felix in 11.02. Lauryn Williams took the win in the 200 meters in 22.96. Sanya Richards-Ross continued her winning ways with a time of 50.21 in the 400 meters. Amantle Montsho was second in 50.33 and Rosemarie Whyte was third in 50.41. Shannon Rowbury was third in the 1500 meters in 4:07.14 behind Abeba Aregawi (4:05.29) and Mercy Cherono (4:05.42). The USA swept the first four spots in the 100 meter hurdles with Dawn Harper taking the win in 12.59. She was followed by Queen Harrison (12.68), Kellie Wells (12.69) and Ginnie Crawford (12.73).

Zagreb World Challenge-Carmelita Jeter took the win in 11.07 over Jeneba Tarmoh in 11.30 in the 100 meters. Allyson Felix won the 200 meter in 22.35 over Aleen Bailey (22.95) and ChaRonda Williams (22.96). Maggie Vessey showed great form taking the win in the 800 meters in 1:59.61 over Brenda Martinez (1:59.63). Ginnie Crawford got the best of Queen Harrison taking the win in the 100 meters hurdles in 12.68.
