A (usually) humorous look at sports written by popular parent bloggers and some of their friends.

So football fans, there are only three more weeks of college football left before the bowl season begins. And as ESPN says, that is the most wonderful time of the year.

Here are some highlights from this past weekend’s games. There were no huge surprises, as the top four teams in the BCS held onto their spots in the rankings.

Oregon 15, Cal 13

Well, the Duck fans all over the country are breathing a sigh of relief as the Cal Bears missed a late-game field goal to keep the Ducks undefeated and atop the rankings. The Ducks are going to have to step it up to keep that undefeated record intact.

Auburn 49, Georgia 31

Speaking of Auburn, they had a bit of a tough time with the Georgia Bulldogs for a little more than half the game. Cam Newton, whose eligibility for the game was decided at the very last minute, due to some allegations about his father taking money during the recruiting process, didn’t let the talk bother him or the Auburn offense and they rolled on to win and keep their undefeated season alive and clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

Stanford 17, Arizona State 13

It’s not that often I get to talk about my alma mater in a good light, especially this football season. But I’m proud of my Devils for holding the Stanford Cardinal (your team name is a COLOR) to only 17 points and forcing the top QB in the nation to fumble and throw an interception. I have high hopes for my Devils next year, seeing as there are only a handful of seniors on this team.

Wisconsin 83, Indiana 20

So Indiana isn’t a football powerhouse, but they did almost beat Iowa last week, who was ranked 17th in the country at the time. And I watched this Badgers team play my aforementioned Sun Devils back in September and they didn’t look like a team that could score 83 points in a game. But this was the second time this season they’ve scored more than 70 points in a game. The 11 touchdowns scored against the Hoosiers were the most in Wisconsin history and the second most by a team in Big Ten history.

Notre Dame 28, Utah 3

Well, Utah is making sure that they everyone in the nation forgets that they were once a top-10 ranked team this season. Either that or they forgot some people back in Utah. Or the sight of Touchdown Jesus was just too much for the Mormon Utes. (Yes, I know not all people from Utah are Mormon.) To add salt to the wound, Utah got creamed by Tommy Rees, a freshman quarterback making his first start for the Irish.

South Carolina 36, Florida 14

Steve Spurrier went into his old stomping grounds and drained the life out of The Swamp, snapping an 0-19 streak for South Carolina in Gainesville. And with the victory, clinched a spot for his Gamecocks in the SEC Championship Game, the first time the Cocks will be in the title game since joining the SEC in 1992.
