You wouldn’t think a team with the moniker of “Hitmen” would be big on charity, but you’d be wrong. The Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen held their annual Teddy Bear Toss earlier this month and collected over 23,000 Teddy bears that were later distributed at the local children’s hospital and to other organizations. In some cases, players delivered bears personally, something that totally has me looking for a tissue.

Started in Kitchener, Ontario, the event has been adopted by a number of teams in the WHL, with everyone trying to beat the record of over 26,000 bears set by Calgary in 2007.

Here’s how it works: Home team scores goal. Bears rain down on the ice.

Based on the videos I saw, it is more like “Bears rain down on fans in the rows closest to the ice and those people throw them over the boards.”

Here. See for yourself.
