Game On!Sports Girl Talk is designed to become a trusted resource for parents relating to a broad range of information on sports and fitness for girls ranging in age from 4 to 14. Discussion will focus on topics and issues covering general sports, specific sports, fitness, nutrition, medicine, injury prevention, stress, peer groups, and more. We hope to help our readers to stay informed, feel educated, and maybe even derive some comfort from the information and discussion.

On Wednesday, September 25th, women (and girls) have cause to make a statement by engaging in physical activity. Sure, every day we all have an abundance of health-related reasons to balance our days with some physical activity.  But National Women’s Health & Fitness Day presents an opportunity for us to make a big deal out of it together – put our voices and bodies together to create emphasis.

Game On! Sports Camps 4 Girls and The Game On! Sports Foundation are about passing on the gift of confidence and know-how that will endear these girls to an active womanhood.  So we take the time to list suggestions of how women AND their daughters can celebrate National Women’s Health and Fitness Day together.

Spare some quality time on Wednesday with your daughters to enjoy one or more of these activities if you need some fresh ideas:

1)     Go for a walk or jog, taking the time to have a nice talk;

2)     Pick up a couple of tennis racquets, head to the courts and have some fun hitting the ball around;

3)     Create a fun fitness circuit either inside or out depending on the weather which includes twisting, turning and lifting your body in different ways. You can take ideas from your yoga, dance, or other fitness-related classes and modify so you both can rise to the challenges. Don’t forget to jam to some good tunes during your circuit.

4)     Create a series minute-long fitness challenges with a rest of a couple of minutes in between. You can include sit-ups, jumping jacks, push-ups, squats, etc.

5)     Take out the jump rope and see how many two-legged and single-leg hops you can do in a row.

6)     Shoot hoops, throw a ball around, kick a ball back and forth.

7)     Check to see whether local businesses might be hosing fun events in celebration.

Thanks to National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, we can all break a sweat together, share our experiences among friends and family, and feel good about it.  We can use the day to converse with our daughters about the importance of an active lifestyle, remind ourselves of the importance of serving as role models, and designate active bonding time.

Post your activity and general thoughts or add it to the comments section.  As always, look forward to your feedback and continued discussion.

Happy National Women’s Health & Fitness Day to all.
