Bridget Franek will run the 3,000 steeplechase August 4th in London for the USA. Since the trials, she has run a few PRs in Europe suggesting she is peaking perfectly for the Olympic games.

Bridget took a moment out of her routine in training camp to answer a few questions. The Running Economist will also interview her after she returns to the US and gets some much needed rest!

Until then, here are “5 1/2 Questions with Bridget”:

1. How much of a badass do you think your mother is? Several of us watched her pump out a 6:00 mile at the All-Comers meet at Hayward Field and were very impressed.

My mom has always been my inspiration and my role model. I started running because of the example my parents set when I was growing up. They always exercised because it was fun and that made it into something we kids wanted to always be part of!

NOTE: Bridget’s mother is a badass.

2. What are the biggest changes in your training that you have made since moving to Oregon and working with the OTC?

My move to Oregon was tough for a number of reasons...I moved across the country not knowing anyone, away from friends and family. My training increased in volume as well as intensity (I know, a HUGE no-no) simply by virtue of my new world-class training partners. Possibly the biggest challenge for me was how different the coaching styles were from the nurturing nature of my college coach, to the much colder, more professional style of Coach Rowland. For me, it was incredibly empowering and has taught me a lot about the sport and myself but it was a very difficult adjustment!

3. Where is your favorite place to run in Eugene (other than Hayward Field!)?

Eugene is such a special place for us runners. One of my favorite places in town is the Ridgeline Trail System. I also really find it peaceful to run on the River trail along the Willamette.

4. Do you still work some with Lauren Fleshman and Picky Bars? and what is your favorite flavor?

I no longer work with Lauren. They hired some full-time employees and the company has really taken off! I was traveling so much, I couldn't be around as much as they needed but still help out occasionally if they get into a pinch. My favorite flavor is still the original- I LOVE peanut butter:)

5. What is the coolest thing that you have done in London so far?

The Opening Ceremonies was pretty amazing but I also really enjoy getting to run everyday in the park across the road from where we have been staying. It is a very peaceful place and I love how much nature can flourish so close to the city. It is so good for me to have someplace to get away if I feel like the pressure or anxiety is getting to be too much!

Good luck Bridget! Keep it rolling over there and we cannot wait to see you charge the barriers in London.
