Shannon McIntosh is a 21 year-old racecar driver and 1 of 5 finalists vying for the cover of Seventeen magazine’s October 2011 issue. The cover model contest, dubbed “Pretty Amazing,” launched earlier this year in search of “someone who inspires with her talents and who is beautiful inside and out.” Shannon’s unique story, immense drive and success at a young age were some of the qualities that helped her stand out among the 35,000 entries submitted.

Coming from a small town in Ohio, McIntosh started racing with her family for fun at age 5. Without money or sponsorships, Shannon had several challenges to overcome early on. She has since transitioned to full sponsorship and is now fulfilling her dreams. Among her many accomplishments, McIntosh is currently the sole female driver in the USF2000 National Championship Series and the only American female driver in the developmental “Mazda Road to Indy” pipeline.”Pretty Amazing” indeed.

What is also “Pretty Amazing” is the fact that should she win, McIntosh would be the first athlete to grace the cover of Seventeen since 1976, when Olympian Dorothy Hamill flashed her winning smile for the publication.
