Adidas is following in the footsteps of the many athletic companies who have joined the minimalist footwear trend. The brand recently unveiled the adiPure Trainer, its first barefoot shoe and the first to be designed specifically for the gym, a quality that allows adidas to differentiate itself from similar offerings on the market. Meant to serve as an additional piece of equipment at the gym, the shoe mimics the natural movement of the foot and “activates and strengthens muscles, builds balance and promotes dexterity.”
The brightly-colored trainers are similar in style to those offered by Vibram Five-Fingers and Fila since they also feature individual toe compartments. But despite its glove-lit fit, the adiPure design also resembles that of a traditional running shoe. The brand debuted the new shoes at an event in NYC yesterday with New York Giants WR, Jerrel Jernigan and U.S. women’s national soccer team midfielder, Heather O’Reilly, who were on hand to discuss the benefits of the footwear. Where athletes are concerned, the shoes are meant to help maximize workouts in preparation for gameday, improving their balance, foot strength and flexibility.
“My feet are able to move naturally in all directions and I can work muscles from my toes all the way to my calves,” said Heather O’Reilly when testing out the new adipure Trainer. “The adipure helps me improve my balance and increase my foot and leg strength to help me play a full 90 minutes at my highest level.”
Available in four colorways for men including red and black, and two for women including bright blue and metallic silver, the adiPure Trainer will retail for $90. The new shoe will hit stores such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Foot Locker and Sports Authority and shopadidas.com in November. Check it out:
