Throughout the 6 month long NFL season, you’d be hard-pressed to find “pink” accents on the football field. But when October rolls around, the hue that we rarely associate with the game is ever so present. From game balls to goal posts, from officials’ whistles to sideline caps and from gloves and cleats to the captain’s patch on jerseys, the pink frenzy is out in full force. The NFL, players and coaches are once again showing their support for the fight against breast cancer. The league’s “A Crucial Catch” campaign, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are 40 and older.

Females account for more than 40% of the NFL fan base, making the recognition and support of breast cancer even more important. The campaign kicked off this past weekend as 15 teams took the field in their pink. In addition to on-field displays of support, several teams have organized other initiatives in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can read on about those here.

All apparel worn at games by players and coaches, along with special game balls and pink coins will be auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFL.com/auction), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities. And football’s most masculine men have already shown their support in a variety of ways. Some opted for a more subtle approach to incorporating the pink, while others (ahem, Antonio Garay) took it one step further with themed haircuts. Here are some of the looks we saw during the Week 4 games:

This month, consumers can also purchase almost any type of item in pink, including football fan gear. To view all of the NFL offerings, visit here. Below is a preview:
