On the night before Super Bowl XLVI, the NFL honored the best players and plays from the 2011 season with the first NFL Honors awards show. The Hollywood-style ceremony featured red carpet arrivals and plenty of gridiron glamour. The night’s honorees will not be participating in the Super Bowl, but in celebration of the big game weekend, they came dressed to thrill. They hung up their jerseys for the season and opted for a range of suits, separates and bold accessories. From formal fashions to casual wear, current and past players and coaches showcased their off-the-field sartorial sense. Check out some of the standout styles from the NFL Honors show:

Carolina Panthers QB, Cam Newton, was awarded “Offensive Rookie of the Year” at last night’s ceremony. He also receives top honors for his ensemble. A cool blue suit paired with a colorful bow tie and Ray Bans could be a risky style move, but he has the Hollywood smile and swagger to pull it off.

Two of the NFL’s most popular QB’s, Green Bay Packer Aaron Rodgers and New Orleans Saint Drew Brees, received the “Most Valuable Player” and  ”Offensive Player of the Year” awards respectively. On the red carpet, Rodgers was the clear cut winner. His gray suit and polka-dot tie combo was chic and unexpected from the QB. Brees’ navy separates were a bit underwhelming.

Denver Broncos QB, Tim Tebow, and Broncos LB, Von Miller, are teammates who each had standout rookie seasons. Tebow sparked a 2011 football phenomenon while Miller was voted “Defensive Rookie of the Year.” When it comes to their style, Tebow, who seems partial to wearing purples and pinks, hit the red carpet in a gray suit paired with a purple shirt and tie in mixed patterns. Miller rocked his trademark specs, a casual sport coat and a shirt that needed to be tucked in.

Arizona Cardinals CB, Patrick Peterson, has been one to watch on the fashion front. He was a style standout at last year’s NFL draft. He scored again last night in a sleek black suit and tie, adding a pop of color with a burgundy dress shirt. Houston Texans RB, Arian Foster, is also known for his unique fashion sense. Similar to Peterson, he paired a light gray suit with a bright red dress shirt. Accessorizing with a bow tie, fedora and thick-rimmed glasses gave his ensemble some additional flair.

San Francisco 49ers LB, Aldon Smith, and Miami Dolphins WR, Brandon Marshall, both opted for sport coats in the salmon-colored family and paired them with a range of accessories. Smith spiced up his look with a plaid vest, a golden tie and a green pocket square. Marshall chose blue pants, a green ascot and a green pocket square. Both ensembles seem more appropriate for Easter Sunday.

On the opposite side of the red carpet fashion spectrum were Philadelphia Eagles WR, Desean Jackson, San Diego Chargers TE, Antonio Gates, and Eagles RB, LeSean McCoy. A button-down shirt and jeans for Jackson, a blue chunky knit cardigan for Gates and a tee, sunglasses and wool cap for McCoy characterized this casual crew.

Buffalo Bills WR, Stevie Johnson, wore an ensemble as colorful as his personality. In a fashion cateogry all its own, the head-to-toe black ensemble featured neon accents and personal touches such as “SJ13″ on his hat.

Former players Jerry Rice, Deion Sanders and Steve Young were also dressed to the nines. All three guys looked dapper in their simple yet sleek suits.
