Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, is tennis’ biggest fashion fan and a longtime friend of Roger Federer. Clad in designer dresses and sporting a perfect bob and her signature shades, Wintour is never far from the U.S. Open action. In honor of this year’s tournament, Wintour merged her interests in tennis and high-fashion.
Vogue magazine enlisted 11 designers to take the iconic yellow tennis ball and give it a fashionable twist. The participating designers included Peter Som, Fenton, Pamela Love, Erickson Beamon, Warby Parker, Creatures Of The Wind, Rag & Bone, Tory Burch, Eddie Borgo, Monique Lhuillier and Diane Von Furstenberg. Also added to the mix was the game’s most stylish star, Maria Sharapova. The classic tennis ball was customized based on each designer’s signature aesthetic. With added embellishments like crystals, pearls, leather, spikes and printed patterns, these tennis balls are no longer suitable for the court.
Check out some of the designs below and for the complete set, visit here.
PETER SOM: For this design, Som took inspiration from the tennis bracelet and added “a little bling to the Har-Tru.”
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Sharapova styled her tennis ball with her signature lip logo in red. Fans will recognize the logo, which appears on Maria’s recently launched candy line, “Sugarpova.”
WARBY PARKER: The most creative tennis ball in the bunch comes from Warby Parker. The guys behind the brand have their ball “dressed in a retro red sweatband and classic shades, their design is clearly channeling Richie Tenenbaum’s style.”
EDDIE BORGO: Cones, spikes and a silver hue make this design the boldest of all.
