In 2005, NBA commissioner, David Stern, implemented a mandatory dress code for all NBA players. A new fashion mandate has now been set but this time around, it’s in relation to the coaches.

The league issued new rules that require coaches to wear collared shirts as part of their gameday attire. Mock turtlenecks under sport jackets are no longer acceptable. Translation: the master of the mock, Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy, will have his trademark look replaced this season.

“I want them to at least name the rule after me,” Van Gundy said. “Somebody has their Bird rights. Larry Bird got that rule named after him. I want it to be the Van Gundy Rule."

While we would like to criticize the decision to evoke the coaches “freedom of fashion,” A Glam Slam doesn't mind seeing Van Gundy's look go. But now that collared coaches will dominate the sidelines, let's at least pay our respects: R.I.P. mock turtleneck.
