Nivea brings its blue to the New Jersey Nets

A Glam Slam covers the latest news and trends in fashion and sports, wherever the two worlds collide.

Following recent sponsorship agreements with Russian Airline Aeroflot and the Stoli Vodka brand, the New Jersey Nets have made another “smooth move.” The NBA team has signed on Nivea, one of the world’s largest skin and beauty brands, as their official locker room sponsor.

The Nets are the latest group of male athletes to hop on the beauty bandwagon. With an expanding men's grooming market, guys like Drew Brees (Dove), Michael Strahan (Vaseline) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Suave) have also showcased their loyalty to various beauty companies.

This deal has the global beauty brand paying six figures (an estimated $200,000 to $300,000) for the sponsorship rights. In return, the Nivea name will appear on the team’s locker room door and within its interior, and the Nets’ towels will also be adorned with the company’s blue logo. In addition, Nivea will distribute its balms, body lotions and facial scrubs to the Nets’ players, for pre-and post-game grooming. [NY Times]

When it comes to collaborations, Nivea no stranger to the world of sports. Just this past Spring, the company inked a multiyear title sponsorship deal with the AVP professional beach volleyball league.
