A Glam Slam covers the latest news and trends in fashion and sports, wherever the two worlds collide.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York begins today and athletes with be among those lucky enough to snag a coveted front row seat to view designers’ Fall/Winter 2011 collections. New York Knick’s star, Amar’e Stoudemire, had his very own “fashion coming out party” during the Fashion Week festivities this past September. Though he was new to the Big Apple, he immediately made an impression on Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour. The pair certainly turned heads when they were seen palling around at runway shows like Tommy Hilfiger.

Now it seems as though the relationship has paid off for the Knicks frontman. Amar’e will be the latest sports star to appear in Vogue. The New York Post reports that he just did a photo shoot for the magazine’s April issue. “The Vogue team took over Riverside Boulevard apartment building The Alydn’s full-size basketball court earlier this week.”

Amar’e will follow in the footsteps of LeBron James, the last basketball star to be featured in the magazine. James had graced the cover of Vogue’s April issue back in 2008, alongside Gisele Bunchen. His photo stirred up a ton controversy when many deemed the cover shot “racially insensitive.” It was a seemingly unsuccessful attempt by Vogue to broaden their audience, since the magazine also struggled with sales of the issue.

Let’s hope Amar’e has better luck. We can’t wait to see this spread.
