Maria Sharapova's ballet-inspired spring Cole Haan ad

A Glam Slam covers the latest news and trends in fashion and sports, wherever the two worlds collide.

Maria Sharapova was the first Nike athlete to appear in a Cole Haan (Nike fashion subsidiary) campaign when she fronted their “Sporting Spring” ads back in 2009. Her interest in fashion and sports has been a huge benefit for the brand since combining those two worlds is now an important trend for designers. In addition to serving as a company spokesmodel, Sharapova also took on the role of “lead collaborator” and developed a special Cole Haan collection. What began as a few colors and styles has blossomed into a much larger array of offerings.

In her latest ad for the company’s Spring 2011 line, the tennis beauty could easily be mistaken for a ballet dancer. She is pictured resting against a wall while wearing a silver and ivory tutu dress and purple cardigan. Her outfit is paired with the Cole Haan Jasmine OT Pump, an item that exemplifies how the company merges fashion with function. The light gray strappy heels are not only super stylish but they also feature Nike Air technology. But despite showing off those heels, Sharapova has admitted that she lives in ballerina flats. Those flats and a variety of leather accessories from the Spring 2011 line surround Maria in the ad.

Sharapova is one of six subjects to appear in the new campaign along with other innovative individuals including songwriter and producer Theophilius London, artist Kate Neckler and a group of entrepreneurs.
