Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York has come to a close. Designers spent the last week showcasing their Fall/Winter 2011 collections and A Glam Slam was lucky enough to attend a variety of shows and preview the upcoming men’s and women’s fashions. And once again this season, sports were infused into Fashion Week in a variety of ways.

Athletes are always among the top trendsetters so an early viewing of collections is a must when it comes to maintaining their status as style icons. Not only did they line show front rows and hob-nob with influential personalities in the fashion world, but some even dished about their own collections and collaborations. Sports-themed shows and athletic influences were also evident within new lines.

The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection kicked off Fashion Week with a bang. Female celebs replaced supermodels and hit the runway for the show, which helped to spread awareness and benefit heart disease. Among the lovely participants was boxer, Laila Ali. At 8-months pregnant, Ali looked like a knockout as she strutted her stuff in a custom-made, cranberry-colored gown. She might be tough in the ring but Laila definitely has a softer side. Men’s wear brand, Perry Ellis, is often a hit among NFL stars. The newest collection was introduced to a packed house including a front row dominated by football players. Maurice Leggett (Kansas City Chiefs), William Beatty (New York Giants) and George Wilson (Buffalo Bills) looked super-stylish as they previewed some potential off-field fashions.

Leggett also made his way to the Venexiana show later that night, rocking the same purple sweater and shades:

Amar’e Stoudemire was the star of Fashion Week back in September, where he spent most of his time alongside Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour. This week proved to be no different. The New York Knicks star stole the front row spotlight at the Tommy Hilfiger show for the second season in a row, when he sat between Wintour and European Vogue Editor at Large, Hamish Bowles. Amar’es relationship with the “fashion Bible” has certainly paid off; he is slated to appear in the magazine’s April issue. The basketball star also took some time to chat about his new fashion project, a women’s line with designer Rachel Roy:

“We’re doing a line that’s kind of sport apparel for women. It’s still going well,” Stoudemire said. “A woman wants to look good when she goes to basketball games. So I figure it’s a great target for us to design some sport wear for women to still stay sexy when they go to basketball games.”

Olympic gold-medal winning figure skater, Evan Lysacek, came out to support his friend and his costume designer, Vera Wang. Wang and Lysacek had worked together to create his skating ensembles for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. To preview her upcoming line, Lysacek dressed up in a slim cut suit and pocket square:

New York Rangers winger and former Vogue intern, Sean Avery, is notorious for his style of dress off the ice. Despite his love of fashion, Avery was noticabley absent during the week’s runway shows. He told the New York Post: “I’m watching them on Style.com. It’s easier to stay at home and not deal with the craziness.”

But Avery still managed to hit the Fashion Week parties and even hosted one of his own. In the American Express Skybox at Lincoln Center, the New York Rangers all-star hosted a Men’s Night of Fashion, Music and Sports alongside designer Robert Geller and guitarist Gary Clark Jr.

Erin Andrews took some time out of her sideline reporting to check out the Alice & Olivia Fall presentation. Wearing a silver mini dress from the designer, she chatted with Access Hollywood about fashion and her Valentine’s Day date for the evening. Check it out:

Johnny Weir was no doubt the “it boy” of Fashion Week. He made his presence known at several runway shows including The Heart Truth Collection, Marc Bouwer 3-D, Tadashi Shoji, Alice & Olivia and Richie Rich’s Villionaire Collection. If he wasn’t walking the runway himself, he was sending photogs into a frenzy with his outrageous ensembles. Here are some of Weir’s Fashion Week looks:

But perhaps his most memorable appearance of the week took place at the Elise Overland show. The Standard Hotel ice rink was the background for the show’s skating models and a fur clad Johnny Weir. The skater even gave onlookers a special performance, complete with Black Swan inspired makeup and a flashy ensemble that he created together with Overland. Number Lab is a men’s apparel line with clothing that merges athletic qualities with sophistication. To showcase their newest alpine ski-themed collection, the brand began with a hockey scrimmage to set the mood. The Winter sports theme continued when the guys hit the runway in colorful separates that would work on the slopes, yet are also wearable well beyond athletic activities. Sporty accessories including skiis, goggles and hockey sticks polished off each look.

The Moncler brand is known for their overly extravagant fashion presentations and this season was no different. The French company, often associated with their high-end down jackets and sportswear, held their show in the crowded main concourse at Grand Central Station. To showcase the F/W looks, more than 100 models sporting down jackets, hats and goggles broke out in a perfectly choreographed dance. Each was paid $150 and a Moncler jacket.
