Ski outerwear has certainly upped its fashion game in recent years. Though the Winter apparel is rooted in function, brands are paying more attention to designs aspects as well. Top female skiers like Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso are often seen in figure-flattering gear accented with bright colors, bold patterns and modern silhouettes for a more fashion-forward look. Winter weather accessories such as goggles, skiis and snowboards have also received major style makeovers, as luxury designers are getting in on the action. But when it comes to ski helmets, fashion typically takes a back seat to safety. They are a necessity on the slopes but they are not necessarily glamorous. Until now.

Fosi Originals offers the latest in fashionable skiwear. Fosi, an acronym that stands for “Fun, Originality, Style, Innovation,” allows wearers to totally transform a standard helmet. The UK-based company offers one-of-a-kind helmet bands that add a little faux flair to those plain pastic lids. The most stylish new ski accessory is fun, fashionable and best of all, it’s safe.

Company founder Barbara Lees explained, “Although this is essentially a fashion accessory, our aim is to encourage more women to wear safety helmets, and our research found that women over 30 are the least likely group to wear them. I started by designing one for myself but soon realized there was a real demand for such a product.”

The Fosi headwear is offered in a wide range of styles and colors. “Pink Champagne,” “Leopard,” and “Chinchilla” designs are available for the real trend-setters while simpler designs such as “Marmot” and “Brown Bear” are a bit less flashy. Either way, you will no doubt be a standout on the slopes.

In addition to its aesthetic qualities, the Fosi is affordable, safe and simple to use. The attachment fits around almost any helmet, yet it doesn’t cover the whole helmet. Vents are left clear so there adverse affects on safety or functionality.
