The Knicks are headed to the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2004 and Amar’e Stoudemire has been a huge factor in leading the team to their return appearance. Though preparing for the playoffs is the top priority right now, he has not abandoned his other passion. The Knicks frontman has been hard at work on his upcoming women’s clothing range with fashion designer, Rachel Roy.

“Fashion is very attractive, which fuels me and makes me want to give it more importance. That’s one thing about fashion: You can really, really tell someone’s type from what they are wearing. I love Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford,” Amar’e said.

Though Stoudemire and Roy were not familiar with one another prior to this collaboration, they have quickly become quite the design duo. Amar’e has been very involved in the entire process, helping to create logos, choose materials and decide on finishing touches such as buttons and zippers. According to WWD, items in the line will have a “graffiti feel” to them, which is already evident in the logo seen below. Pieces will also include a “1” icon in reference to Stoudemire’s jersey number, as well as vintage-looking variations of the NBA logo. Taking inspiration from the Star of David tattoo on Stoudemire’s hand, they have even incorporated stars into the collection.

Sports have of course served as a huge inspiration for the line. “I am channeling a girl that goes to sporting events,” said Roy.She goes to basketball events or maybe football events. She needs something that is modern, something that represents her in a way that doesn’t look like it just came out of a sporting goods shop. I think I would like to teach girls that you don’t necessarily have to wear high heels to watch sports, but you can be casually chic.”

The line will launch in September at Macy’s stores, macys.com and NBA.com, with retail prices from $45 to $250. Here’s a peek at the collection logo and a few sketches:
