Figure skater Johnny Weir makes news for his fashion choices more often than his sport. The skating star is the ultimate risk-taker when it comes to his style, often drawing comparisons to the likes of Lady Gaga. In his first major design project, the fashionisto is taking his eye for style and lending it to the masses.
On April 30th, Weir will launch a range of little black dresses designed exclusively for edressme.com, an online retailer with a large selection of dresses for all occasions. The designs will be totally wearable, but expect to see some of Weir’s favorite accents – ostrich feathers, sequins and tulle – incorporated into his creations. According to WWD, the “Little Black Dress” collection will be unveiled during the “Ice Dreams” skating show in Bensenville, Illinois, where skaters will perform wearing items from the new collection. Once released, prices will range from $198-$298.
Weir said, “The level of design is complemented by my understanding of a woman’s body, and my knack to refine the classic Little Black Dress with fanciful embellishments like feathers and sparkles,”
Here is a look at the first released sketch. What do you think?
