Given that the Sprint Cup series is allegedly losing money, sponsorship, and viewers, and throwing in the huge number of cautions that are bedeviling the finishes this year as space gets tight....why do there need to be be forty three cars in every race? Is there going to be a clamor if Joe Nemechek doesn't start? I know no one is going to miss Robby Gordon. There are fifteen to twenty guys* in every single race who don't stand a chance and who exist solely to provide an obstacle course for the top drivers. While it's not fair that many of them aren't competitive because their teams don't have the resources of a Hendricks Motor Sports, unless deep changes are made to the structure of the series that isn't going to be resolved anytime soon. In the meanwhile, get them out of the way. We might stand a chance of seeing exciting racing among the best drivers rather than a cavalcade of cautions.

*I hate to say I told you so, Danica. Women are going to succeed in Nascar eventually. Just not you, now.
