Washington lost 52-44 at Georgia Tech on Friday. Lack of offensive rebounds to cover up a stagnate offense was the issue.

The Huskies' overall play looked good against the Yellow Jackets, who've become a perennial NCAA tournament team. Only the shots UW (7-3) created and fouls it drew resulted in misses. Washington was 14 of 54 from the field (25.9 percent) and outrebounded 63-37, 29-10 on the offensive glass.

Sophomore PG Jazmine Davis led the Huskies with 21 points (7 of 17). Freshman wing Aaliyah Whiteside (19 points) and junior G Tyaunna Marshall (15 rebounds) led Georgia Tech (5-5).

Heralded freshman Heather Corral (Prairie HS) made her college debut for Washington, entering the game early in the first half. She wore teammate Deborah Meeks' jersey (No. 24), however, because Corral didn't expect to play on the trip and didn't pack her gear. She was expected to return for Washington's Dec. 28 game at UC Davis (3-4).

Corral is recovering from a broken right wrist suffered in practice and wore a black brace.

Despite Washington gaining a player, it lost two in junior G Mercedes Wetmore and freshman post Mathlide Gilling getting sick on the trip. Gilling, a signee from Denmark, only averages 6.4 minutes as she adjusts to the American style of play . Wetmore, a starter, was replaced play junior G Kassia Fortier in the lineup. Wetmore is third-highest in the Pac-12 for minutes played (38.3) and averages 9.1 points and 4.0 boards.

Corral's rust showed. She handled the well when playing at the PG slot. But she was 0-for-4 from the field in 22 minutes and had four fouls playing off the bench. Seven players saw minutes for UW on Friday, the norm.

NBA legend Charles Barkley visited Georgia Tech's film session this week. Yellow Jackets coach Machelle Joseph spotted him at an Atlanta restaurant recently and talked to the former Auburn star about her team. He agreed to stop by practice and spoke with the players, complimenting them on their academic achievements and, of course, rebounding, according to a halftime feature showed on ESPN3.com's feed of the matchup.

Tech must have been inspired. It outrebounded UW 28-17 in the opening half as GT went on an 18-3 run to close the half ahead 22-19. Washington was 3-for-24 from the field after building a 16-4 lead.

The Huskies flew to their respective homes after the East Coast matinee. Davis, whose parents were recently in Seattle, was excited about returning to her native Bay Area. UW just hoped it would have been with another signature win in nonconference play.

Tech also gets a Christmas respite. It plays at Quinnipiac (7-1) on Dec. 29.
