There will be some intriguing matchups in Seattle this weekend when Washington hosts the opening two rounds of the NCAA tournament at Edmundson Pavilion.
West Coast Conference winners Gonzaga (27-4) return as the No. 7 seed to face North Carolina (19-11), the No. 10 seed at 7:30 p.m. PST on Saturday. In the early matchup at 5:06 p.m. PST, No. 2 seed Texas A&M;(25-7), which handed Nebraska its only loss of the season, plays No. 15 seed Portland State (18-14).
It'll feel like a homecoming with area natives Courtney Vandersloot (Kentwood High) and Vivian Frieson (Garfield High) leading the Zags. PSU, which defeated UW to open the season in November 67-66, is loaded with area players, including freshman G Eryn Jones (Meadowdale High).
We'll have more on the subregional in Tuesday's paper.
