LJSave.jpgTwo-time MVP Lauren Jackson returned home to Australia after suffering an apparent left Achilles injury while playing in Russia. Storm coach Brian Agler is in contact with Jackson, only stating that her injury is still being evaluated and more information could be provided this week.

Although Australian newspapers said Jackson expects to return to play in about three months, not missing the WNBA season, Agler told a spokeswoman that no clear date for return has been set.

The severity of the injury also is questionable. Reports state Jackson, 29, discovered the injury after undergoing exams during the holiday break. She returned to Russia to play with Spartak Moscow and then was told via e-mail that she needed to return for rehab.

"I am going to be missing a lot of basketball and that is really disappointing," Jackson told The Age (Sydney) of play with Spartak. "But when your body says stop, you have to listen."

The Aussie is rehabilitating with physicians at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. She began her playing career with AIS, most recently rehabilitating two stress fractures in her lower back at the facility in 2009.

The Storm begins its title defense in June. Jackson was voted Finals and regular-season MVP, averaging 20.5 points and 8.3 rebounds during Seattle's historic 28-6 run in 2010.

"I've been in the WNBA now 11 seasons and I regard Seattle as my second home," she told The Australian.

Jackson, pictured above by The Seattle Times, was not immediately available for comment.
