Jayda Evans covers college and pro women's basketball. While its her first year on the Washington beat, she has covered the Storm since its inception. She'll offer observations, critiques, occasional off-beat tales and answers to select e-mail inquires. Evans also has written a book on the Storm and women's hoops, called "Game On!"

KatieG4.jpgFormer Storm G Katie Gearlds is no longer in Indiana, as previously reported on this blog after a discussion with coach Brian Agler regarding her whereabouts. I was able to reach her agent, who shared that Gearlds is in Spain, but not playing.

Her agent didn't want to discuss Gearlds' status internationally or stateside, only commenting that it's "a gray area right now." Gearlds (pictured right) opted not to return to Seattle for the 2010 season due to a knee injury. After rehabilitation, she tried to play in Greece, but Agler said she suffered another setback with the knee.

Agler is optimistic about re-signing All-Star Swin Cash, possibly making the announcement this week. With Australian Olympian Belinda Snell inked to a training-camp contract and Russian Olympian Svetlana Abrosimova possible to return after EuroCup play, the wing rotation could be difficult for Gealrds, 26, to jump back into.

The Storm does own Gearlds rights, according to Agler, so she'd have to be released by the team in order to seek opportunities elsewhere in the WNBA. But while Agler thought Gearlds was trying to return this summer, her agent didn't agree.

Gearlds couldn't be immediately contacted for comment, but I'll keep you posted.
