Seattle-based Goodwin Sports Management announced the signing of Australian Liz Cambage on Friday. Cambage, a 6-foot-8 center, is playing tourist in New York with agent Aaron Goodwin as her guide before Monday's WNBA draft at the ESPN studios in Bristol, CT.

Cambage is expected to be the No. 2 selection, going to Tulsa. Reports had her claiming she didn't want to play for the Shock, but the 19-year-old's opinion has changed since arriving in America.

"She's a young lady and she's in Australia," Goodwin said. "Although they don't show the Tulsa Shock (in Australia), they do show the LA Lakers. So, her point, in jest, was she wanted to see herself in purple and gold and running off to Los Angeles and getting to meet Kobe. People forget these are kids. It wasn't anything directed toward Tulsa. Whoever drafts her, whether it's Tulsa, Minnesota, New York or LA, she's going to go and she's going to play and she's going to bring that personality to them."

The link between Cambage and GSM should be interesting. The agency also represents WNBA stars Candace Parker and Tina Thompson, who play for the LA Sparks. Parker has signed multiple deals to make her one of the highest-paid players in the WNBA when endorsements and overseas contracts are combined with modest league salaries.

Cambage, who won her first WNBL title and MVP award this season, is studying fashion retail business. Unlike Storm star Lauren Jackson, a three-time WNBA MVP, Cambage is not only uber comfortable with her height but the spotlight. The pair play together for the Australian Olympic team.

After Cambage is drafted, bringing her raw talent stateside, GSM figures there will be plenty of opportunities to expand her game and visibility.

"Liz, like other girls, sees the direction Candace is headed and is intrigued by that," Goodwin said. "When I got the first phone call about Liz, the first call I made was to Candace. She said the girl (Liz) has incredible potential. She's a beast now, but working with us and working with Candace off the court is going to help her become even better.

"Initially, we want to develop her as a basketball player. Because of her vibrant personality and she's a nice-looking young lady -- she's 6-8 but not the type that's shy about the fact that she's tall -- we think in a few years she'll be a person that everyone will know. With the Olympics coming up, the timing was right."

GSM is working to land other WNBA draft invitees, including Gonzaga star Courtney Vandersloot of Kent. The All-American PG said she's spoken to some agents, but is going slow with the process.
