USAB-Wrap 5-13-11.jpgStorm players are back, so that should signal the weather to get warmer. It's been 191 days since Seattle has felt the beam of a 70-degree ray. That was Nov. 3 of last year, a little over a month after the Storm won its second WNBA championship.

Well, regardless of outside temps, it's going to be hot inside Seattle Pacific University's Brougham Pavilion gym. The Storm will hold training camp there and with a listed 17-player roster, cuts are looming opening week.

The WNBA is allotting 15 active players at camp. Seattle is skirting the rule by giving veterans Sue Bird and Swin Cash a breather after an intense, three-day USA Basketball training camp in Las Vegas. Those sessions wrapped up on Thursday.

Storm coach Brian Agler attended while his staff ran rookies and players like PF Lauren Jackson and C Ashley Robinson through individual drills the past week. WNBA training camp starts Sunday afternoon.

Retaining its starting five and key reserves in Le'coe Willingham and Robinson, Seattle theoretically is only looking for one gem to add to its final 11-player roster. Agler, who's also director of player personnel, traded for three-time Olympian Katie Smith and second-year post Jacinta Monroe while signing two-time Olympic silver medalist Belinda Snell (Australia) during the offseason. He expects those players to be on the final roster.

"I'm really happy about the training camp," Cash told reporters in Vegas on Thursday. She's in Seattle, attending Fashion Week in support of Robinson on Friday. "Just the energy from all the ladies out here, the competitiveness and just people competing, that's what it is all about. I think he (national team coach Geno Auriemma) set the tone for how the next year is going to go leading up to London (Olympics)."
